RPC wins TMT Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2020
Law firm RPC has been named Technology, Media and Telecommunications (TMT) Team of the Year at the Legal Business Awards 2020.
RPC's market leading technology team, which works in close tandem with the firm's preeminent IP and media team and provides a full technology offering of transactional, regulatory and litigation advice to major global technology players and high profile clients, was recognised by Legal Business for its award-winning work for LINK, the UK’s largest cash machine network, on the successful competitive tender of the provision of all of its telecoms and technical infrastructure.
The TMT Team of the Year is awarded by Legal Business to the Team that demonstrated market-leading commercial and regulatory expertise through its advice on a specific, IP, technology or media case or transaction.
Legal Business highlighted the "hugely-complex tender process for outsourcing all telecoms and technical infrastructure that sit behind its network" as one of the main factors for RPC winning the award.
RPC’s team was led by Technology partners Charles Buckworth and Mark Crichard, the head of RPC's outsourcing practice, who were closely supported by RPC's specialists across employment, tax, corporate, competition and regulatory.
Charles Buckworth said: "This is a great result, which demonstrates the strength and breadth of our Technology offering and our ability to bring together a seamless service in the context of a fast paced and complex transaction involving specialists from across the firm, including commercial, employment, regulatory, data, competition and banking. Thanks to everyone who was involved – it was a real team effort!"
Partner Mark Crichard added: "We are delighted to have worked with LINK on what is a very significant transaction in the payments sector. The TMT Team of the Year category is always hotly contested, so this is a great accolade. We couldn’t have done this without the help of the wider Technology team, which continues to move from strength to strength and is a valued advisor to both tech and non-tech clients. Let me also congratulate all teams shortlisted."
John Howells, the LINK Scheme CEO commented: "We couldn't have had better support from RPC in what was a critical and complex transaction. They really understood the commercial and regulatory drivers, delivering a service that was clear, commercial, focused and well-managed. What's more, they were all a pleasure to deal with – good humoured to the end."
Sue Wallace, the LINK Scheme COO said "Mark and Charles and the rest of the RPC team were exceptional in their ability to guide us through a complex procurement process undertaken in the context of intense regulatory scrutiny and shifting challenges along the way. Even at the most stressful points in the process, the advice was calm and commercial (but with real teeth when required) giving us a much-needed sense of support and always seeking to make our lives easier."
RPC's team also included Marlon Cohen (Senior Associate), Jonathan Greenway (Associate) and Johnny Orchard (Associate) and was closely supported by Lambros Kilaniotis and Melanie Musgrave (Competition), Ben Roberts (Tax), Kelly Thomson (Employment), Rupert Wyles (Corporate), and Edward Colville (Banking).
