RPC commits to Mindful Business Charter
We are proud to report that last night (Thursday 10th October) RPC signed the Mindful Business Charter, an initiative developed to mitigate unnecessary stress in the workplace. The Charter is a commitment by the firm to seek to change avoidable working practices which can have a negative effect on mental health and wellbeing. It aims to build trust and effective communication between colleagues, clients and contacts.
RPC's commitment to the Charter coincided with World Mental Health Day, an important event to raise awareness of mental health issues and advocate against social stigma.
Our Global Head of Insurance Simon Laird signed the Mindful Business Charter on behalf of RPC. He was joined by Alistair Johnson, Rachel Street, Will Sefton and Rachel Pears. RPC were among 17 new signatories to the Charter: Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, Burness Paull LLP, Coats, Coventry Building Society, DAC Beachcroft LLP, Dentons, the Financial Services Compensation Scheme, Irwin Mitchell, Morton Fraser, Nationwide Building Society, Network Rail, Paul Hastings, Radiant Law, Squire Patton Boggs and TLT LLP.
Simon Laird said: "As a law firm, we don't sell widgets. What we are really very good at at RPC is using our minds to come up with brilliant solutions for our clients. Working in a law firm isn't always easy. We recognise that. But helping our people to understand how they can better manage those moments of high pressure and stress is core to delivering great client outcomes and a high performance culture. Signing the MBC wasn't just the right thing to do from a people perspective (which it is!), at its core, it's fundamental to the success of our business."
Inclusion and Diversity Lead Rachel Pears said: "The Charter is the first step on the road to us taking responsibility for the health and wellbeing of ourselves and each other. We have, for too long, allowed unhealthy working practices to become the norm for us - a badge of honour. I think this will start an important conversation about how our industry has evolved and how we can look at our current working practices and reduce unnecessary stress. It's in ours and our clients interests."
As a signatory, we will now begin looking at our working practices and considering where we can make positive changes.
