James is an Associate in the Commercial Disputes team of our Hong Kong office specialising in complex insurance and professional indemnity matters. Hehas served as coverage, monitoring and defense counsel in high-value disputes arising from financial lines (FI/D&O), professional risks and transactional liability. James regularly advises professional services firms including accountants, auditors, solicitors, insolvency practitioners and finance professionals on navigating regulatory investigations, disciplinary proceedings and professional negligence claims.

James's recent work highlights:

Defending a major international accountancy firm against a $250m+ professional negligence claim through a full trial following the collapse of a listed company as the target of a short-seller report containing serious allegations of fraud.

Advising trustees-in-bankruptcy on the cross-border bankruptcy of a prominent PRC investor in Baccarat SA, a leading luxury crystal manufacturer, including the defense of the bankrupt's application under s.83 of Cap. 6 to challenge the trustees' administration of the estate.

Defending an excess insurer in HKIAC arbitral proceedings in respect of a $30m+ claim made under a D&O policy arising from a take-private transaction in an offshore jurisdiction.
