Alison’s expertise is in defending professional negligence claims against a wide variety of financial professionals. These include pension administrators, independent financial advisors, accountants, insolvency practitioners, and auditors. She also occasionally defends professional negligence claims brought against solicitors.

“Managing expectations is the key to good client communication.”

“Almost all of my work is related to insurance. I enjoy the variety. Not only are there lots of different types of claims, but we also act on pure coverage matters as well.

I have experience with cases that involve international elements. In these, we tend to utilise Terralex or other partnerships to obtain advice and input from lawyers outside the UK regarding specific issues.

I am very detail-oriented, and think this helps me notice things that others might miss.  This is a huge advantage when it comes to crafting strong and creative arguments in our clients' favour - not to mention in spotting potential weaknesses, so that we can prepare to defend them and manage a client’s expectations ahead of time.

Managing expectations is, in fact, the key to good client communication in my eyes.  I am realistic when speaking to clients about their legal position, risks, and timescales, so we can all be on the same page from the outset. I'm straightforward in my advice, and not afraid to speak up when appropriate.”

Alison’s recent work highlights:

We were approached for coverage advice late in a claim and spotted an applicable policy exclusion which had not been spotted in the prior year the claim had been active.  Ultimately, this resulted in savings of £1.5m to the insurer-client.

On a professional negligence matter regarding implementation and advice on a tax avoidance scheme, we were able to settle at mediation for £430k, down from the original £1.8m claimed by the claimant.
