Alexis Armitage
Senior Associate
Alexis advises clients on a broad range of contentious tax issues involving both direct and indirect taxes – from managing HMRC enquiries and information notices, through to hearings in the Tax Tribunals and Higher Courts, often with international elements. She has particular expertise in running and managing group litigation in respect of both individuals and corporates and dealing with complex HMRC enquiries.
"I always aim to put myself in a client's shoes and have a genuine interest in understanding their business and motivations."
"Much of my work has an international flavour – I have a great deal of experience in helping clients handle cross-border tax investigations and disputes.
When it comes to developing relationships with clients, I always aim to put myself in a client's shoes and have a genuine interest in understanding their business and motivations. I pride myself on having a natural affinity with people and being down to earth and practical. Good humour helps too!
I am continually looking for ways to add value for clients (and the wider tax industry) beyond providing legal advice. I am the current host of RPC's Taxing Matters podcast which provides listeners with stimulating debate on a vast range of tax-related topics and it's a role I find hugely enjoyable and rewarding. I was also instrumental in the establishment of RPC's Tax Take+ platform which helps accountants and tax advisors to have their finger on the pulse of the latest tax and regulatory issues."
Alexis’s recent work highlights:
Acting for a major retailer in its anti-dumping, VAT and customes disputes with HMRC regarding whether certain bicycles originated from Sri Lanka and/or Bangladesh or China.
Acting for a major retailer in a pan-European dispute related to the VAT treatment of goods treated as having been supplied in the UK.
Acting for one of the world's leading consumer goods companies and over 150 of its employees in relation to a dispute with HMRC concerning the tax treatment of certain vehicles used by the employees during the course of their work.
