Energy

Our energy practice has extensive experience in disputes and coverage issues arising from onshore, offshore and renewable energy installations internationally.

Overview

The team has worked on matters arising from almost every type of energy asset including; heavy industry, mines, refineries, processing plants, power stations, turbines, generators, road, rail, aviation infrastructure, warehouses and industrial units, pipelines, ports and terminals, oil rigs, offshore platforms, mobile offshore platform units and major construction projects.

We provide sensible, commercial and realistic advice on the merits of a matter and are often able to resolve disputes without the need to litigate or arbitrate. Where claims develop to a stage where dispute resolution is necessary, we have used mediation, arbitration, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution to great success.

In the renewable sector we also advise on claims worldwide and count wind, solar, biomass, tidal, geothermal and hydro within our experience. We are well versed in advising on recurring issues such as turbine damage, cables claims, foundations issues, defects, faulty workmanship/faulty design, series losses, aggregation issues, warranty disputes and issues regarding the presentation of risk.

Our energy specialists combine insurance and legal experience with a real understanding of how metallurgical, chemical, mechanical, electrical, technical support and distribution issues affect manufacturers and operators of conventional and renewable power generation assets.

As such, you can be assured that our team understands the technical elements of the claims that arise. Our practice typically sees us working alongside adjusters in the aftermath of mechanical failures providing advice on coverage and subrogation issues arising out of commissioning delays.
